Notification, Chat Popup and Scene Transitions

For this phase of development I focused on the Notification system, the Void chat popup and the scene transitions, all of these help the games pacing and to maintain the horror atmosphere
Notification and Void Chat popup
Fifteen seconds into the 2nd day a notification with a subtle sound effect will play with the message "New chat request" , this comes out of nowhere and will make the player feel anxious as to what lies ahead, this was our intention to make the player stop and think as to what it could hold. Once clicked the main chat box is opened and the player can see the "Void" chat button on the left hand side which when clicked brings you to the branching NPC dialogue
Scene Transitions
Certain narrative or gameplay actions trigger a fade to black signifying the end of the chapter or a major change in the story. This simple effect helps add suspense between each chapter and story change
Between each day the scene then stays black as text that looks like its being typed appears and says what chapter the player is entering and some narrative text for the player to read as shown in the photo above. These transitions are there to keep the player immersed in between chapter changes as they stay engaged as they read the on screen text as it is being typed
With these systems in place the game feels much more polished and complete and provides a more cohesive experience when playing this game
